UNRELEASED SCI-FI FEATURE
These are concepts for a never released Sci-fi feature I was able to work on as part of a pitch.
The entire script took place inside of an international space station, represented in the sketches above. These also include a greenhouse for a sustainable long-term space odyssey.
The pitch was also comprised of a pre-viz shot for the script's opening which I modeled, directed, and cut together.
This was a really fun project and I always look for the chance to be able to sit and do concept work, even if it does not happen as often as I would like.
There are never any guarantees that the work you do will always make it to the final product. Shot designs are scrapped, shots get pulled, edits change, or entire projects vanish. Yet, as frustrating as this is in the moment, it is nice to look back years later at the work from a different perspective. Detached from the politics and frustrations, you can now reflect on the lessons you might have learned from these 'exercises', admit to mistakes, build on strengths, and hopefully, have a more humble perspective in the end.
These are some of the concepts I have created and somehow still had buried in the memory of my hard drive. I really enjoyed finding these images and what better to do than to share them.
The concepts above are from a released Sci-fi short a few years back. After several months of working on this project I was able to create some designs that gave me the opportunity explore areas of industrial design and architecture. I also directed the opening scene which you can see in pre-visualization mode here. All of the work in the video is my one with the exception of the robotic bust.
I personally created all of the concepts, designs, models and shaders as well as all of the rigging and animation. Although the short did not include much of this work, I was glad to have had this exercise.
